If you want to work in Canada, you usually need work permit. In some cases, you can work without a permit. Work permit is a legal document allowing a foreign worker to being employed inside Canada. There are two types of work permits: open work permits which allows you to work for any employer in Canada and employer-specific work permits which allows you to work according to the conditions on your work permit including the name of the employer you can work for, how long you can work, the location where you can work.
In most of the time you need to apply for work permit from outside of Canada. However, you can only apply for a work permit from inside Canada if some condition applies. Like if you have a valid study or work permit or your spouse, common-law partner or parents have a valid study or work permit or you’re waiting on a decision on an application for permanent residence from inside Canada.
